The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Kaja Shukova held a working meeting with the ambassador of Hungary in our country H.E. Andras Klein. At the meeting, they discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the area of the environment and the possibilities for its expansion.
The focus of the meeting was on the status of the twinning project: “Support in the implementation of the waste management legislation and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme”, which was launched at the end of 2022 and should be completed by the end of 2024 and is supported by the Blue Planet Foundation from the Republic of Hungary and the Environment Agency of the Republic of Austria.
This project will enable the efficient and effective operation of a modern, responsible recycling and recovery industry in the country, following the principles of the circular economy. In doing so, it will contribute to the development of professional, deliverable, responsible, and efficient extended producer responsibility schemes which will strengthen the capacities of competent national waste management authorities and stakeholders for modern waste management and recording and reporting systems through the Internet.
In addition to discussions about the situation in the area of waste management, water management was also discussed as a priority area in the coming period. The Hungarian ambassador conveyed Hungary’s readiness to support our country in the EU integration process.
