At today’s first official meeting of the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini with the new EU Ambassador of the country David Geer, were discussed the cooperation and support that the European Union gives to our country in environmental protection, as well as its promotion.
Inevitably, the discussion was focused on informing and reviewing the status and challenges in the implementation of IPA projects. The topic of conversation was the project for the construction of the collector system for the city of Skopje, then for some of the projects for which the tender procedures were cancelled, such as the project for the construction of the sewerage network in Kicevo and the construction of the treatment and rehabilitation plant and also the upgrade of the collector system and sewerage network in Bitola and Tetovo.
In the waste area, information on the status and the next steps in the realization of the project for construction of the regional dumpsite in Sveti Nikole were exchanged. The issues of the current capacities of the IPA structure in the MOEPP was raised as an important issue, but also on the project units in the cities where the large infrastructure projects will be implemented, emphasizing the need for immediate retention and strengthening of the existing staff in order to ensure the successful implementation of the planned activities and projects.
It was also discussed the need for timely appointment of evaluation commissions and acceleration of the evaluation process, in terms of optimizing long EU procedures and for greater use of IPA funds within the environmental and climate action program.
Minister Nuredini also informed about the status of the laws that have been prepared within the IPA projects, as well as about the status of preparation of the strategic response and plans of the MOEPP for financing projects within IPA 3 2021-2027.
