Today in Dojran the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Kaja Shukova, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Ljupco Nikolovski, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Jovana Trencevska, the director of the Food and Veterinary Agency, Nikolce Babovski and the working group worked on finalizing the proposal of the Law on donating surplus food.
The work resulted in a consensus on the competencies, systems, and platforms for the management of the surplus of food and its donation to the citizens who need it the most.
By adopting this legal solution, an institutionalized system of food donation will be established throughout the country, sustainable food management will be encouraged among all entities in society, reduction of food waste, donation of surpluses, as well as raising awareness of participation in poverty reduction processes.
The data show that in our country, annually, over 12 thousand tons of usable food end up in dumpsites. According to calculations, approximately 13,000 citizens can be fed with it, with three meals a day.
