Today, by actions for clearing out waste depots at several urban locations on the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning in cooperation with the City of Skopje and municipalities in the Republic of Macedonia with their public utilities, civil association “Let’s do it Macedonia!”, carried out the campaign “Macedonia free of waste” for the fourth time.
Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical PlanningStevo Temelkovski and the Mayors of the City of Skopje Koce Trajanovski and Gjorche Petrov Municipality Sokol Mitrevski joined the central event of the national campaign organized in the Municipality of Gjorche Petrov, at the location of the path along Vardar River at the pedestrian bridge near European Eye Hospital. The action was also supported by the Slovenian Ambassador H.E. Branko Rakovec and Ambassador of the United Kingdom in the Republic of Macedonia H.E. Charled Edmund Garet, as well as Parliament members.
At the location, Deputy Temelkovski by way of symbolic collection of scattered wastes and their proper disposal sent a message that cleaning of waste let on inadequate spots, but also rising the awareness of citizens for proper waste management, were necessary measures for constant reduction of pollution in urban environment and maintenance of healthy and clean environment.
This year campaign was actively joined by around 50 municipalities, around 20 NGOs, volunteers supported by public utilities and their mechanization, scouts’ squads, Red Cross activists and Peace Corps, divers’ societies, while students collected old paper at plastics at points in their schools. The campaign also involved institutions that are part of the Coordinative Body Centre for Crisis Management, Directorate for Protection and Rescue, ARM Headquarters, Ministry of Education and Science, ZELS, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Ministry of Health and Agency for Youth and Sports. Construction company “Bauer BG” organized cleaning of hazardous construction waste at several locations.
The action is part of the national campaign consisting of activities for waste cleaning out, education and promotion and it will be implemented on the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia. It is part of the “Macedonia free of waste” Project approved by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning in cooperation with the civil association “Let’s do it Macedonia!”. It will involve several local self-government units with their public utilities, non-governmental sector and schools. The main accent is placed on collection and proper disposal of waste at specified locations.
Through this campaign, citizens of the Republic of Macedonia will join the global action – Let’s do it! World 2014,which is officially supported by the European Parliament and this year it is organized in 112 countries.
