In Ohrid, the first of two public debates was held on the Draft-Law on the proclamation of Lake Ohrid as a protected area in category III – Monument of Nature.
Minister Shukova called for joint action and cooperation, and asked for the support of all stakeholders in the realization of the processes for the protection of this area, which represents not only national, but also world natural and cultural heritage.
The act for the proclamation of the Lake Ohrid protected area contains the name of the protected area or the natural rarity, the category of protection for the protected area, geographical features and other basic features, a map with the boundaries of the protected area, the boundaries of the zones that exist within the protected area, then types of zones in protected area, protection regime and entity that will manage and other issues determined by the act of proclamation.
The Draft-Law for the proclamation of Lake Ohrid as a Monument of Nature was prepared according to the Valorization Study that determines the natural values of the area.
By adopting the Law on the proclamation of Lake Ohrid as a Monument of Nature, it will be possible to preserve the natural state of the lake through the protection of natural, cultural and other values as a unique natural phenomenon in the world, prevention of actions that can directly or indirectly cause disruption of habitats and ecosystems, creation of favorable conditions for protection, preservation and promotion of biological and regional diversity, as well as sustainable use of natural resources in a way that does not threaten the survival of habitats and species.
