A meeting was held today with the representatives of the Macedonian Association for Solid Waste Management (MaSWA), where the upcoming international conference that will be held in Skopje on May 29 and 30, 2023 under the title “Implementation of circular economy in solid waste management” was discussed.
The goal is to focus on the creation of a sustainable waste management system, through the selection, appropriate disposal, recycling and reuse of waste, according to the principles of the circular economy. This is actually the main focus of the Macedonian Association for Solid Waste Management (MaSWA), which this year marks 10 years since its foundation. MaSWA is an association of more than 30 companies, NGOs and individual experts from multiple fields working in the segment of sustainable waste management in Republic of North Macedonia, and is also a national member of ISWA – the International Solid Waste Association. Using its expertise and experience and already applied positive practice, MaSWA through its activities strives to contribute to the creation of a sustainable waste management system, by encouraging greater application of the principles of the circular economy.
The annual conference is of an international nature, and in addition to local experts, international experts as well as representatives of ISWA will take part in it. In order to include all relevant stakeholders in this process, representatives of the central and local government, companies, representatives of the business community and science from the country and the non-governmental sector will participate in the conference.
At the meeting with Minister Shukova, it was also discussed about signing a Memorandum of cooperation, how the business community and the regulators could work together in the future to meet the goals for sustainable waste management.
