It today’s meeting with the delegation of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) from the UNEP Vienna Programme Office led by Sonja Gebert with the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova and representatives of MOEPP, the fruitful cooperation between these two institutions was confirmed, it was also discussed about the status of the implementation of current projects and the plans for future joint activities.
The implementation of the project “Promoting Sustainable Land Management through Strengthening Legal and Institutional Framework, Capacity Building and Restoration of Most Vulnerable Mountain Landscapes and improving the management of protected areas” implemented in North Macedonia was discussed and the project that has yet to start was discussed “Strengthening the capacity and knowledge to apply an integrated landscape approach to achieve neutrality for land degradation and biodiversity goals in the Shar Mountain in North Macedonia”.
Emphasis was placed on coordination and definition of the agenda for the visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNEP Inger Andersen, who will be on a working visit to our country from May 31 to June 1.
This is the first visit of a senior UNEP representative to our region and is a response to the invitation sent by our delegation during the participation in the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15) in Montreal.
